    caughing yorkie

I have a male yorkie, 6lbs 2 years old. Everytime he drinks water he starts coughing or gagging, sometimes to the point of regurgitation of some water. He is a rescue dog so I don't have much in the way of history on him, has anyone else seen this problem with their yorkie and should I be concerned. Otherwise he appears to be a healty happy dog.

I have to call my Vet in the morning about another issue , but my oldest Chi does that also. I will ask and get back to you. It doesn't seem to bother her and when she spits up it is just water.

I would take him to a Veterinarian tracheal collapse is a genetic problem in Yorkies and it could be that Thisbehavior is not normal . If he keeps gagging and vomiting it could go down
the wrong way and cause pneumonia

There is a human product available at the pharmacy for people that have this problem where the liquid, water/juice/ whatever goes down and into their lungs and could cause pneumonia, it is called "Thick It". I do some caregiving to the elderly is why I know this. It thickens the liquid and I guess it goes down better and they don't choke.

Yes Lee, I would also do the same and take him to the Vet and see if it is the Tracheal collapse. that is a serious issue and can be fatal.
