    Question Over friendly pup

Hi! My 3 months old border collie (female) was born and grew up on a family farm with 5 kids. As a result, she absolutely adores kids (and people in general) which is great, but can be a bit of a problem for me as I live right next door to a school. She is normally quite obedient and is quickly learning the tone of my voice when I'm not happy with her but as soon as a kid is in sight she totally ignores my calls and my commands to sit and stay. I guess I'm a bit concerned right now because this morning she just ran out of the yard and crossed the street to go and see a young mum and her kids. I quickly got my training stick out (a plastic bottle with little pebbles inside) and she came back to me but I litteraly had half a second to grab her by the collar before she was ready to storm off again. She never listened to my command to sit and stay. I got her back inside while saying "No" with my meanest voice, but I want to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Does anyone have any advise on how to train border collies pups to be obedient while there's many distractions and excitment around? Thanks!

We have two Papillons and we are working on the same issue. I am having some success with the following method: I put some little bits of steak or something they can't resisist on a paper plate. I let them sniff it, then make them sit while I walk about 20-30 feet away and place the plates on the floor, making them remain sitting. They are getting very good at obeying the "sit" command in any surrounding, even with kids around, and waiting til I tell them "OK" to break. I also make them sit and remain sitting when walking on leashes and we pass someone. They love to greet people but not everyone likes dogs, no matter how cute and adorable they are.
