The Scottie
DESCRIPTION
The Scottish Terrier, also known as the Aberdeen Terrier, but commonly referred to as "scottie", is a breed with a distinctive profile because of their black weather-resistant hard wiry outer coat.
They can span over 10 – 11 inches and can weigh about 19 – 23 pounds.
TEMPERAMENT
The Scottie is lovable, charming and playful breed. They're also very energetic, brave and proud. This breed can be a bit difficult to train because of their sensitivity to corrections and stubbornness.
So, dog owners are suggested to be firm but gentle when training or correcting this breed.
This breed loves to dig and is a great watchdog because of their alert nature.
HEALTH AND LONGEVITY
This breed is prone to flea allergy, jaw problems, Scottie cramp, skin problems and Von Willebrand's disease.
They can live for about 12 – 15 years.
CARE REQUIRED
It's suggested that this breed be brushed regularly because o their hard wiry coat and to be bathed only when necessary.
Taking this breed for daily walks will also help keep them healthy and calm. Playing fetch or other agility related games can serves as great exercise for this breed but shouldn't be a substitute for daily walks.
SUITABILITY
This breed will do well in an apartment setting and they can live without a yard. They're quite active indoors so daily walks or exercise can really do great to calm this breed down.
This breed although charming and friendly will need dog obedience training and a master that will have a strong and firm leadership.
