    Deworming of Yorkie puppy

    Hi everyone,

I need some advice from fellow Yorkie owners. My puppy is about 9 weeks old and we had him at the vet on 8 weeks. (We got him on 7 weeks – early I know!) He got some deworming tablets which we gave to him over 4 days, as prescribed by the vet. (This is his second deworming course). I made the huge mistake of giving him some milk – yes, I know now that gives him a runny tummy – but we stopped that about 3 days ago after it was realized! Since he got the deworming meds he has a runny tummy and after he poops he usually leaves 2 or 3 drops of a watery blood behind. Is this normal? I read somewhere that it is but is still concerned. If this is normal, for how long after the last pills were taken will his tummy still be upset? Thank you so much in advance for helping me – I’m still a new yorkie-owner but enjoys him very much!!

    Hi Lantjie

Nice to meet you. I'm a new Yorkie owner myself. I think you should get your vet's advice asap.

    Hi Lantjie,

Yes take a stool sample into your Vet and see what is going on it could be cocidious(Don't know if I spelled that correctely). Your little pup is suffering. My little Chi's had the bloody stools when I got them, and I switched to Blue Buffalo food and they are now happy and healthy. It worked immediately.

What food are you feeding? Could also be a allergy.

    Hi Sandramich & Mia,

    Thanks so much for replying!

I’ve been feeding him Hill’s Science Diet Dry Food for Puppies. He’s been on that since he started with solids and didn’t have any problems until he got his shots and the deworming meds. I think I’ll have a chat with my vet.

Besides the loose stools he is a healthy little puppy with LOTS of energy and very loving! I hope you are enjoying your little ones as much as I do mine...

    Take care!

    Hi Lantjie,

I know I will get feedback on this statement but I would never feed my pups Science Diet. I have done research and all the Vet clinics sell it but that is because Science pays the Vets so much to get their product out there. Sorry everyone but that is what I found.

Go get a small bag of Blue Buffalo Lamb and Brown Rice and slowly start adding it to your Science Diet. I am not sure if you have Petco or Petsmart in South Africa but you can go online and order it.

Good luck and I hope your little one is soon back to normal. Yes, I am really enjoying my little Yorkie too, She is a sweetie.

    Mia
