Puppies are small adorable creatures that everyone loves.

Just the sight of a puppy can bring a smile no matter how stressed or frustrated you are. The puppy's presence alone can erase every bad thing that happened to you during the course of the day.

That being said, taking care of puppies isn't actually as easy as it may sound. Raising puppies is simply similar to taking care of a baby; it will require a lot of your time and energy in the beginning. So before you decide to buy a puppy for yourself it would b best if you evaluate yourself and your environment.

A simple exercise like asking yourself a couple of questions like; can I provide for the puppy? Am I really ready for the puppy?

Do I have the time and energy to take care of a puppy? What do I know about taking care of a puppy? And writing them down on paper can help you decide what the best decision is.

Remember that a puppy isn't a toy that you can only take care or pay attention to when you're bored or when you have the time. A puppy is a breathing and living creature that will die if neglect. The puppy will need your outmost care and attention for a couple of months.

A puppy will also require training and socialization for the safety of your neighbors and your neighborhood (this is actually a requirement in some states and countries.)

If you have already thought long and hard about it and have decided that you're indeed ready to become a daddy or a mommy for your new puppy then here are some things that's suggested that you do.

* Do lots of reading

You have to be prepared when you take that puppy home. It's also suggested that you read about the breed of the puppy that you're going to bring home and be familiar to their needs and their health.

You can read some books in the library or do some research in the internet about taking care and raising a puppy.

I also have some dog training ebooks that may help you in this process. It's called DIY Dog Training ebook that can help you house break and deal with some other dog behavioral problems like barking, chewing, digging, aggression, etc.

* Puppy proof your home

It would be better if you're puppy would arrive in a safe and welcoming environment. A puppy is always curious so you don't want to leave anything that your puppy may chew or swallow that could inflict pain.

* Start looking for a vet

A vet is one of the important persons that you will need to help you raise your puppy. It's suggested to have one vet for your puppy to help monitor your puppy's health and to make visiting the vet an easier task.

If you bought your dog from a breeder then you can simply ask your breeder if he has a vet in mind that he can recommend.

Those are some of the things that are advised for you to do before deciding to buy and bring a puppy home. Remember that puppies will rely on you for everything for the first couple of months so you really need to be there for them.

So, before deciding to buy a puppy think really hard and asses yourself, remember that if you make a mistake in getting a puppy the puppy that you bought will be the one who will pay for that mistake.
