    Yorkie's Ears

Our Yorkie is 4 months old and her sister's ears are already standing up,we were very careful on handling her and her ears.Is there anything we can do to get them to stand up? I've heard something about taping them or even shaving all the hair off.Any suggestions?

I am not all that familiar with Yorkies, but I know with Schnauzers...if you want the ears to stanad up all the time...that is called "Cropping" which is a surgical procedure done by a licensed Vet. Afterwards, there is a long period of taping, bandaging, and caring for..before the whole process is complete.

Was your 4 month old Yorkie's ears already standing up when you got her, or did they just stand up on their own?

Yorkies when teething have ears that may or may not go up and down. Trip the end 1/3 or the ears of hair inside and out. Should help with the ears standing up. Don't worry if he is teething for now.

hello Gai5l sometimes the Yorkie's ears is hereditary, so you I would suggest that you check your Yorkie's parents ears..

Hi, trim the hair off the edges and top third of the ears. Using scotch tape fold the ear in half so the it is standing up. take a strip of tape and wrap it around the ear twice in the middle of the ear. Change the tape daily or more often if it becomes loose. It will look funny but it works as this is what I did to our Grand daughter yorkie, after 2 to 4 weeks they should be standing up on there own. If they start drooping again trim the hair on the ears.

I got my little 2 pound Yorkie at 6 months. Her ears were up at that time and now ( just turned 1 year), she has so much long hair on her head and ears it is hard to find her ears. I put clippies in every morning, I am keeping her natural (not the puppy clip) so there is more maintence, brushing every day and sometimes 2/3 times a day , but I love doing it. If you are not showing or breeding your pup does it really matter if her ears are up or down, just enjoy your little treasure.

I am with Jude....before you start trimming, taping, messing with your dog's sensitive ears..... do what Jude suggested and check with the breeder regarding his/her parents' ears. You may even want to chat with your Vet first.

I have several friends with Yorkies and on each one the ears are a little different...up, down, or otherwise. Like I mentioned in one of my other Threads....and like Mia stated above as well....."If you are not showing your pup (conformation ring), does it really matter if the ears are up or down." All Yorkies are beautiful, regardless of what their ears are doing.

My son and his wife's Yorkie's ears are really neither up nor down, but more outward and down....before his grooming we hardly can see them. They rely on his groomer to do whatever. He is handsome no matter what, not to mention "cute as a button".

I have a four month old yorkie and her ears just went up I gave her cottage cheese 1 teaspoon full with her meal once a day and had her ears shaved both front and back and they were up after a week.
