    Potty Retraining

    Hi everybody

Tomorrow my puppy will be 4 months old and I have to retain him.

A month ago when he was nearly trained I have to leave and his training just about stopped, or at least was not as rigorous as it should have been for many different reasons, so I'm just about back to square one.

How should I go about it? Today I reintroduced his cage (he is in it right now) but I don't really know how often I should put him out. In two weeks we will be sailing to Italy and Greece and I sure would like him to be putty trained by then.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello Tarky,

Just continue on how you trained your puppy before 4 months is still a young age so I believe you can easily
potty train your puppy. Just give him a bit of a refresher and shake out those bad habits that he developed.

Hi Tarky, a puppy that is 4 months old should be able to hold it for 4 hours.. Since the training went south and you are starting over, I would start taking him out every hour on the hour, and see if he goes. If he didn't go the first hour, but went the 2nd hour, then he can hold it for 2 hours. If he goes on the half hour, then you know he can only hold it for 1 1/2 hour. That will give you a time frame.

You can also try and increase his time, but there will be someplace for him to go to the bathroom on the boat right? You can continue the schedule above on the boat...

Have a great time sailing.... and please don't lose tarky in the sea.. and don't leg him get eaten by the big fish.

I'll say a prayer for you to have a safe journey. Let us know when you get back...
