Just over two years ago I had to have my beloved Daisy put to sleep, she was a black miniature poodle that I had for 17 and a half years. It was obvious to m e that she was comming to the end of the road, but the thing is you don't want to do it a day too soon or a day too late. At the time we also had 2 papilions aged one and two and they were a great comfort to me at that time but I know that they felt the loss as well. The reason I wrote this post is because the day you bring that cute little puppy home you must be prepaired to have it put to sleep at some point in the future, if you are not capable of making that decision then leave the dog where it is

If the dog is suffering, I agree with you, but if the dog is not suffering I say holistic treatment is the best way to go.
