    Thumbs up stallic

Hello everyone, I am new to this posting. I have a Yorkie Poodle, his name is Taz, and he is 8 years old. Love him to pieces, but need to learn more about what the best food for him is. Because I know, not having a pet dog since 1961, I am most likely not doing the best for him.

When you had a dog in 1961 dog food was much healthier. Dogs at that time were living 17 or 18 years on brand name dog foods. Now the dog foods you see advertised on TV are the ones to avoid. Since your dog is probably small from the breeds you mention he wouldn't eat a lot and the more expensive organic foods would be affordable for you. Sharda has a healthy dog food newsletter and you can find some good choices there. A brand that is often mentioned as healthy is Blue Buffalo.

    Hi Stallic,

Welcome to the Forum. Everything Gail said is so true.

I have 3 Chihuahua's and 2 Yorkies ranging in age from my oldest Chi who is 7 and my youngest Yorkie is just 1. They are all being fed Blue Buffalo Lamb and Brown Rice Adult. They are all healthy and full of energy. I also have a Golden Retriever and she is also on this food and loves it.

Good Luck with your Taz I hope BB works for him. Just try switching very slowly, feed his current food and add a bit of the BB increasing as you go, it may take 2 weeks so his system can get used to the change.

You can go to Blue Buffalo's web site and compare different foods.

    Keep us posted.

    Mia
