I took my 4 month old cocker spaniel for his first grooming and he totally freaked out (whining, yelping, barking, pulling, shaking to be released). The groomers told me to expect the groom to take about 3 hours but it took 4 & 1/2. The groomers were very patient, gentle, spoke calmly and took their time so they wouldn't stress him out. They reassured me that his behavior was very normal for a cocker. I know that if I take him to the groomer in between his visits and let them interact w/him without having anything done might help. This is just a little difficult because it's a 45 min. drive to the groomer and Charlie gets car sick, so these trips are not fun. He loves to be groomed at home, it usually calms him to the point that he falls asleep. Just wondering what to do to help him be calmer for the next groom.
