Border Collie's fur is Flying
Pepper and Roo in snow.jpgI have a Border Collie that did not shed until he was about 8 months old. Then all the "down" or undercoat started coming out in huge clumps even after brushing him daily. (They have 2 coats, long outer coat and the super thick down underneath) I will also use my Oreck hand vac on him, but, the fur keeps flying!! I am saving what I brush, which I have a LOT of now, in order to make into some yarn. It is the softest down fur I have felt and I knit a LOT. I am sure it will make a wonderful yarn. But, I swear...it never stops flying everywhere....NEVER.

Then our 6 month old Mini-Autrailian Shepard has not started to shed and does not seem to have any down or second coat. Wondering if anyone else has experience with them and how they shed?

Both LOVE to be brushed and groomed...it is like getting pet and scratched in all their favorite places. Plus bathing. They just love being rubbed and massaged. They get lots of loving during those times, so they look forward to it.

I have just discovered Nutritional Yeast, and both me and my cat take it. I have noticed this year, she doesn't shed like she did. I would suggest sprinkling a teaspoon or so of Nutritional yeast on your dogs food. It's full of Vitamin B's [except 12] and Amino Acids that both animals and humans need as we age. My cat still gets brushed, because she likes it really, all I have to do is show her, her brush, and she comes running. My Cat has been on Nutritional yeast for the last couple of months.
You can purchase Nutritional Yeast from your Health food store. It is not the yeast you make breads with.
Just my 6 cents...
