Angel Eyes, My sister uses it on her maltese..
I prefer not to give my dogs anything they don't have to take internally.. just my preference.
There are products out there that you can use a filled guaze pad, put a little liquid on it and gently wipe the stains away.
    Even if done daily..
Careful.. don't get anything in the dogs eyes.
I would also keep a eye wash around, after bathing, or cleaning of eyes.. use the eye wash.. won't hurt a thing and then you know the dogs eyes are ok.. nothing in them.

    Cleaning Dogs Ears

    CONSULT W/ YOUR VET !

Any time a dogs ears emit a smell.. call the vet! There is a reason why its smells.
A vet can make sure it is cured, then you can do weekly up keep on your own!

Usually U can get an over the counter Ear liquid to use .. that helps and cures the problem if caught in time.
TO clean the ear I use the drops, for daily cleaning.. put some on a 2X2" filled guaze pad and easily put it over my finger.. and put it in the ear and gently massage the ear. I would not put it "down" in the ear.. just to the tip where the finger would fit in easily..
If you have to go in, or think you do.. then you really need to take the dog to the vet and let them do it and come up w/ what is wrong .. and how to fix it.
My Skeeter loves to have his ears cleaned because I sit him on my lap.. and pamper him.. rubbing his ears.. and massage the guaze/finger in the opening a little.. and rub and talk and coo to him.

    He just loves it.

I do not look forward to cleaning hairs from my pups ears. It just seems so cruel to hurt them like that yet I understand that it has to be done to prevent infections. Perhaps the ears grow the hairs to filter out stuff from getting in to the ear canals.... who knows?!

Anyways... I have a few questions:

    1) Would this be best to have a groomer do it or the owners? What I am wondering is... will the pups/dogs resent their owner because they hurt their ears, so to prevent forming an "untrusting relationship" with your pet ... have a groomer do it?

    2) Wouldn't it be best to apply a light layer of topical numbing cream prior to plucking hairs from ears?

Hello Pam...I believe your dogs won't hate you if you have a groomer groom them but you have to make sure that the groomer
that you choose will be gentle with your dog. I've heard some groomers who simply groom without taking the dog's feelings into
consideration that resulted into a very traumatic experience for the dog.

Resulting to the groomer is ok but just do your homework first.

I use (as well as my Vet and Groomer uses) a product that Cleans - Dries - Acidifies - Deodorizes our dog's ears. It is specially formulated to deodorize and gently clean, dry (always apply after swimming, bathing...), and acidify the ear canal. This provides an ideal environment for healthy ears.

None of us have ever had any problems with our dog's ears.

    MaryAnn....

What is the name of the product you use? Or can't you mention it on the forum? My problem is... I am a nurse that works in a surgical/Ears, Nose, Throat clinic. It makes me cringe at the thought of any human putting powder or anything in their ears as the powder would cake and cause us great distress trying to unclog them ;-o
I have to start thinking "not like a nurse" ... if that is possible )
    Thanks for all your help!

    Hi Pam,

I have a product that I get from my Vet, it is " Oti-Soothe II" that I put in my Goldens ears because she swims everyday. It is very good and smells good also it is cucumber/melon scent, and I agree, I would never put powder in her ears. When I gave my Yorkie a bath I checked her ears and she had only a few hairs in there,so I don't think it is a big problem if you keep after it. My Chi's and Golden never need plucking.

I really love my vet, he knows all 5 of my dogs (3 Chihuahua's, 1 Yorkie and my Golden) and knows just what to do if I have a problem and they all love him also. He has won awards for being the most trusted and best Vet. He is so dedicated and would do anything to help you even after hours if you need anything.

Take care and keep us posted.

Mia.... I so badly wanted (want) a Yorkie. Hubby wanted a toy poodle and he ended up buying two sisters so they'd have a playmate and I was not pleased about having to train 2 pups. It is the most challenging part of all this. One pup is very docile, laid back... content alone, She is the one we decided to buy. But then hubby decided she needed a playmate and bought one of her sisters who is hyperactive and very emotionally needy. Wants to play and have attention 24/7. (Except when in crate). They do well w/ crate training.
I still want to get a Yorkie but perhaps one closer to a year old so it has "some" training under it's belt.... collar LOL!
    Thanks for the info!
    Have a great day.
    Off to work I go.
    Pam

    Hi Pam,

I know that desire to have a Yorkie, I finally just said yes, I am getting one and have never looked back. She is so sweet and never a dull moment, she was pad trained but this last spring she was still under 1 year and I started taking her outside to potty and she learned that so fast that we are out to potty.

Since you have two now, one little Yorkie will just add to the fun and give your hyper poodle someone to try and tear the house apart. (Just Kidding) Yorkies are not destructive but just have a totally different personality that involves being active and being a tease. Mika will get a toy and look at my older Chihuahua as if to say, Just try and get it and she will take off running and then the chase is on.

They bring so much fun and laughs into my life and then she can just be so content to lay in my lap as she is doing now.

I would say start looking and Please keep us posted if you find one. Trust me, you will not regret it ever. In fact I am so tempted to get another, they are so much fun and put such Joy into your life you cannot help but be happy when you get those fuzzy kisses in the morning and all day.

Take care Pam. I could talk about my girls all day but I better end this before it turns into a novel.

    Mia
