Here are some easy and fun tricks to teach your dog.

    Dog trick - Hungry
    1. Take a tasty dog treat and let your dog sniff it.
    2. Once your dog sniffs the treat and try to take it from you, take your hand away from your dog's face so he/she can't eat the treat.
    3. Your dog will then lick his/her lips. Once he/she does that, praise him/her immediately and give him/her the treat.
    4. Start adding the verbal cue "hungry" when your dog will lick his/her lips consistently.
    5. At last, you can just say the verbal cue "hungry" and your dog will lick his/her lips without you letting him/her sniff the treat and withdraw your hand away from his/her face.
    Tip:
You can show this trick off to your friends and amaze them by telling them that your dog understands what you say. Ask your dog, "Are you hungry?". Of course, your dog doesn't really understand what you ask him/her. However, your dog will lick his/her lips as he/she will only understand the verbal cue "hungry".

    Dog trick - Scratch back

    1. Put a treat/a few treats under a container. Make sure your dog sees the treat/treats and use your dog's favourite treats in order to get the best results.
    2. Be patient and wait for your dog to scratch the container. Give your dog a treat immediately after he/she scratches the container.
    3. Wait for your dog to scratch the container a few times before you give him/her a treat.
    4. Add in a verbal cue and a hand signal just before your dog is going to scratch the container to cue him/her. Give your dog a treat immediately when he/she follows your cue.
    5. Use a piece of paper instead of a container. Repeat steps 1-4 if necessary.
    6. Place the piece of paper on your back and ask your dog to scratch it. Give him/her a treat immediately after your dog scratches the paper on your back.
    7. Finally, cue your dog to scratch your back without using the paper. Give him/her a treat immediately after he/she does it.

    Dog trick - bubbles
    1. Throw a tasty treat that can sink in water into a bowl and let your dog eat it. Repeat a few times. (a glass bowl will be preferred for this trick so that you can see your dog blowing bubbles in the bowl more clearly)
    2. Add a little water into the bowl. Repeat step 1 for a few times.
    3. Gradually increase the amount of water poured onto the bowl. Repeat step 1 for a few times after each time you increase the amount of water poured into the bowl.
    4. As the water increases, your dog will blow bubbles when trying to eat the treat in the water.
    5. Add the verbal cue "bubbles" and point to the bowl of water just before you throw the treat into the water after your dog consistently blow bubbles when trying to eat the treat in the water.
    6. When your dog consistently blow bubbles in the water when you cue him/her to do so, you can start asking your dog to blow bubbles by pointing at the bowl of water and saying "bubbles" without throwing a treat in the water. (make sure you give your dog a treat and lots of praise after he/she blows bubbles in the water).
Tip: Most dogs find it difficult to go to step 6 as there is no food to lure them to blow bubbles in the water. If your dog finds it difficult to go to step 6, go back a step to repeat step 5 as many times as possible so that your dog has a clear idea of what you want them to do before going on to step 6.
