Why do you need your dog to focus on you?

- A focused dog is a wonderful dog that can follow you wherever you go as a focused dog will listen to your instructions even if there are distractions.

- A focused dog is important for dog obedience, search and rescue, agility, canine freestyle and so on……..

I have realized that most dog trainers met a problem whereby their dogs do not want to listen to them their in places where there are distractions. *Note: Some people may think that their dog is defying their commands purposely or is being dominant by showing their owners that they are the boss/alpha instead of their owners or simply being stubborn by not listening to them. However, this is not the case. The dog is just being distracted by all those distractions around him, for example, the interesting scents on the ground or those that are carried by the wind in the air, the noises (example: dogs barking, people talking)that are around, the motion of things that are moving (example: children chasing around and playing games, dogs or arther animals walking past, a bird flying in the air) and so on......... I am sure that you have some points in your life when you do not listen to a person who is talking to you as you are too distracted or engrossed in other things that are more interesting to you. The same situation applies to our dogs. They are distracted by other things that they have found which are more interesting to do compared to obeying or listening to your commands. Hence, the most effective way to tackle with this problem is that you make yourself more interesting, fun and rewarding than the distractions that distract your dog.
