Sorry to hear about your anal gland problem. I had a Chow one time that had to have his expressed a lot! More than every 3 months. My vet also said that some dogs were just more prone to this problem than others. I hope you find something that really helps.

I have a 13 yr old bichon that I have been taking for many yrs - every month - to have the anal glands emptied. Groomers can do it some, if they have been trained properly but they cant do it the way the vets do. My vet said that it can be caused by allergies and yes, while they can remove them - my vet said sometimes they can leave them with incontenience so all that being said it was better for us to go once a month. His got so bad before we started going once a month that he used to get infections and had to go on steroids to clear it up. Then at age 9 he became diabetic and you do not want to give steroids to a diabetic as it really raises the glucose levels. I have noticed that since he has gotten on dog food that is for allergies (natures recipe has one and natural balance is limited ingredients for that purpose) that they have improved but we still go every month. Hope this helps.
