    HELP for my 3-year-old maltese...

    Hi All,

I am going through a very difficult time. My beautiful maltese, Lucy Bean was spayed one week ago. As most dog owners, I was scared to put her though this. However, I feel this is a good decision in the long run. Anyhow, I went through with it. As vets say, for 2 days following her surgery she is expected to be lethargic, have loss of appetite and maybe vomiting. She did-but it surpassed the 2 days. My baby was not getting better-she was worsening. She ended up with a fever and vomited a lot. I took her back and the vet gave her a fluid patch and asked me to stop her pain meds (Rimadyl) and to stop feeding. Lucy was not eating at all. She became bloated and very quiet. I rushed her to the emergency room where she spent one night to run tests. She has been diagnosed with having a bad case of pancreatitis. This called for immediate attention. So far, she has been hospitalized for more testing and treatments. She is under 24hr care and has ivy attached to her paw. The vet says she is slowly improving, but may need surgery-AGAIN! I love my dogs so much and this has caused me and my family a lot of emotional distress! On top of that, I have a huge bill to pay that I simply cannot afford. At this point I am relying on people's help in this situation. She needs to stay longer at the hospital until her swollen pancreas becomes normal again. She also has liquid around her stomach. She cannot potty and is still fasting! I am asking for help-any help at all to help bring Lucy back home and in great health. I have her medical bills. You may see her photo in my album. She is a precious little one. Please email me if you are able to help. I would appreciate it so much. It breaks my heart to know that she is not fully recuperated and I must pay soon. Thank you for taking the time to read this post...

I am sorry to hear about your problems with Lucy. When Ellie was spayed we didn't have any problems. She acted like your vet said that Lucy should act. Ellie was not allowed to run and jump or play tug of war for a week.As time passed she was up and going strong. It would seem to me that in a city the size of LA there should be some help in paying for the medical bills. Your vet might know people of organizations who could pay the bills directly. Maybe the hospital could set up payment plans to help out. We wish you and Lucy the best in this adventure. Please keep us posted on your success.
