    Dog acne

    Hello Sharda

    Hope all is well. I enjoy your newsletter and that they are very informative. I even print certain ones for future reference.

    I have a 3 year old female spayed Boxer. My one problem with her is that she get acne on her chin. I really do not want to put her on Clavamox anymore, which is what the vet prescripes when she gets it really bad.

    I have been doing hot compresses twice a day; my vet also gave us Chlorhexidine to clean her chin with, but I do not really think that it is doing all that good.

    Do you have any advice on how I can help prevent and have the acne go away. I can really use any advice that will help me with my Boxer's acne, which I know they are prone to.

    Hello Taz,

    I have read some natural remedies for this that maybe you can try;

    The flower essence Crab Apple is an effective remedy for toxicity and infections. It is often used by holistic veterinarians to fight acute or chronic skin problems, such as acne, eczema, mange, etc. The remedy can be given orally in your dog's mouth. (Dosage: 3 to 4 drops 3 times a day).

    Another herb that has antibacterial and astringent properties is aloe vera. The gel-like juice soothes the infected skin and helps kill bacteria. Put some aloe vera gel on the affected areas several times a day after washing the dog's face.
    But before you do put aloe vera Taz open up the pores first using hot compress.

    I hope this helps.

    If it's true acne you don't want to open the sores, you want them to dry out. Opening the acne up and letting it drain will only cause scars, on both dogs and people. A natural way of getting rid of acne is Clean the area with some a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water. Let it dry off, then apply toothpaste, [any kind of toothpaste] and keep applying this every night, before you go to bed. In a couple of days the acne should be dried up.. Keeping her almost free from Acne, wash her mouth and dry it after she eats. Clean the area with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water..

    People can also use toothpaste to dry up their pimples and acne as well..

    If you have a cone to put on her to keep her from licking it, that would even be better. Most dogs don't like minty stuff though so she may not want to eat it off.

    Hello Sarah!

    Thanks for the follow-up. Also when using toothpaste please make sure that the toothpaste
    doesn't contain xylitol, as this can be toxic for your dogs.
