A Story About Doggy Pregnancy That Everyone Should Know Of

    Hello guys!

I just want to share something that I heard from my vet. I believe that this will come in handy for
those doggy moms and dads out there who are planning to have puppies.

You see, a few days ago I took my stubborn doggy Fafner to the vet for his regular check-up and
when we were there I saw this cute dog (I believe she was a Yorkie) barking all over the place
and so I asked our vet what was wrong with this doggy.

Our vet told me that the dog and her owner actually came to her last night frightened because her
dog was really shivering like crazy and her (the dog's) mouth was actually bleeding because of this
shiver (the dog keeps biting her lip)

Our vet tried asking the owner what was wrong but since the owner was actually really distressed
she couldn't really answer properly but thankfully after a few minutes she calmed down and explained
that her dog just had given birth to 5 puppies.

When the owner said that the vet immediately know what was wrong. It seemed that the cute doggy
was lacking nutrients for her body.

She gives off to much food for her puppies that she's actually giving off more nutrients than what she's taking in.

Our vet simply feed her gave her a shot and a few vitamins and she was fine.

So, for those who are thinking of breeding their dogs please please please consult your vet first
for any complications, for an idea about your dog's diet before and after the delivery.

This was a really frightening story for me but I'm glad that the Yorkie mommy is doing fine and will
be released after a few days.

It sounds like she had gone into Eclampsia. The shivers are the first signs and if she had not gone to the Vet the dog would have died
It is caused when the nursing puppies cause a major drop in calcium. The Vet would have given her a shot of Calphonsan (injectalble calcium)
which will imediatley help her. Then she needs to give calcium supplements daily. Quite often you need to hand raise a puppy if mom
goes into eclampsia. She may not be out of the wods yet. The first 1/2 of her pregnancy you feed normal diet the last 1/2 high protien
puppy diet . This is fed until she weans her puppies. If you feed high protien diets throughout the whole pregnancy that can also cause
    Eclampsia

Yes this was definitely scary, if I were at that position I would be stunned and wouldn't know what to do.

I'm really glad that the ending of this story was a happy and fortunate one.

My friend's dog labored on New Year’s Eve because of stress from the fireworks. The pups died because they were still immature.

Hello Jude, I have heard of this before with similar symptoms.
As you say very frightening ,for both the dog and her mum. I am glad that she was Ok and recovered.

I think that extra vitamins should be given about the 4 th or 5th week.
If someone is going to breed it is inconsiderate to not check out every thing involved with doing so.

I am considering letting my cavalier King Charles have 1 litter .
The problem I am having is finding a dog for her that is local to us ,or reasonably local.
Plus the dog has to be small like she is ..
We found 4 or 5 dogs (same breed) when she was on her last season, but the dogs were too big to mate her.

The vet advised not to use the dogs mentioned ,because the pups would be too big for Lady to cope with, and would be too much for her.
In all honestty this was not something I had considered. It makes sense I guess.

So we are on the look out for a mate for her next season. If it happens ,it was meant to be .
If it doesnt ,then she misses out again and it was not meant to be..

    Thanks for the useful info.
