Hello everyone!

I did a bit of research about this certain eye condition that can affect all dogs but is more dominant with Cocker Spaniels, Beagle, Bloodhound, Boston Terrier, Bulldog, Bull Terrier, Lhasa Apso, Saint Bernard, and Shar-Pei

The condition is called Cherry eyes.

This condition occurs when there is weakness in the tissues that connects a certain gland to your dog's eyes.

What happens is that because of the weakness of the tissue the gland that is connected to your dog's eyes can collapse which can result to swelling and extreme redness, hence its name Cherry eyes.

But don't worry, this condition will not be extremely painful for your dog nor will they have trouble seeing with this condition.

That being said, it's important to address this condition fast since your dog's eyes may be prone to infection that can evolve to something worse.

Depending on the situation your dog will be able to get well from this condition by some drops or ointment that your vet may prescribe.

A surgery may also be advised if the condition is left too long without medication.

Also, according to some sources you can also try this method below to fix this condition;

Wash your hands, and then use your fingers to gently manipulate the cherry eye back under the eyelid where it belongs.

You can try pushing the eyelid over the protruding flesh... of pushing the flesh under the eyelid... whatever works best for you. Make sure you and your dog are both calm before you start doing this.
But it's also very important that you consult your vet as soon as possible if your dog does have this condition.

Don't use any drops, creams or ointments on your dog's eyes without consulting your vet.

If you have encountered this condition or have some more comments and suggestions please don't hesitate to share them.
