    diarrhea in puppy

This past weekend we took our 5 month old mini schnauzer on our first camoing trip. Starting mid day of our second day he developed explosive diarrhea and vomited up his dinner. Could this be stress from the new experience or could he have caught some virus / parasite? I hope you can help me i'd hate to have to board him during our trips or limit our camping.

It could be that being a puppy he probably ate something he shouldn't have. They are very curious.

If your dog has been sick with this for a couple of days I would be worried about dehydration. If i were you, I would call and speak to the vet.

I dont' believe you have to board him, or curtail your camping trips.

Hello sue5882 did your dog already completed his shots?

If not he can really be at risk for parvo and other diseases.

I suggest that you check with a vet immediately.

I had gotten a puppy, took him to the vet. Everything checked out. He was updated on shots and all seemed fine.
Eating well.. etc, he started vomiting occasionally..

well. I took him to the vet immediately.. and he checked him out again, and found worms!
Yes he'd been tested for worms.
    So we started that..
then a couple months later.. he started vomiting again..
Took him back and had him tested and worms again, a dif kind though.

I have never ever in over 50 yrs had a dog with worms. Thanks Goodness.
So far so good, he's now 1 yr and 6 months old.. no more worms!

So .. go to your vet, and have your dog tested. Make sure to take a stool too!

Did you ask your Vet if you should be administering a DEWORMER to your dog on a monthly basis? My Vet recommended that I do since I take my dog to numerous different places often. She has come in contact with a dog that I found out tested positive for worms and immediately took a stool sample to my Vet for a Fecal test, and the results were negative. The Vet said because I have been administering a Dewormer pill to her since she was a pup...that is what protects her from catching things. She has never caught anything..ever. I have a Fecal Test run on her several times a year...no matter what. I always seem to be going into my Vet's office carrying a baggie of poop.
