    Prissy (Heart Murmurs)

Prissy is about 11 and has a 4/6 heart murmur. She also has allergies and sometimes has a cough, which she has all her life. The heart murmur was diagnosed 5 years ago. The vet gave her some allergy medication for the cough, which cleared it up almost immediately. What is the usual treatment for a dog of this age and breed with a heart murmur. I have been given different information from 3 vets.

Hi Prissy, to the best of my knowledge regarding heart murmurs they are usually watched. If they don't present a danger to the dogs life, they usually do not do any intervention. I do know for exercise purposes you should not over work your dog to make the heart work harder, but the dog can still walk and a leisurely pace. She was diagnosed "5" years ago. Apparently you are doing something right.
