    Microchip in Dogs

Has anyone ever seen the size of one of the mifrochips they use on dogs now, and if so do they move. According to my breeder where i got him he was microchiped, and it was put between his shoulders. Last night when checking yet again for ticks, i found a small limp just under his skin on his right shoulder. It has been bothering him, as he has been scratching it alot the last 2 days. I called my vet, but they have a shortage of employees this week, and are only seeing major issue cases.

Could this just be his microchip has moved, or should i be concerned, and try to find another vet willing to see him.

    Thanks,

Dear Blackshadow -- I got my little Yorkie microchiped at the same time he was neutered. He does not seem to notice his chip at all. Once in a while, I can find his chip if I touch over to the right side of his front right shoulder. His chip is not actually between the shoulder blades and it is not on top of his shoulder blade either. If you have checked for fleas and ticks, then I would just wait until the next week when your vet's office is back on 'full staff' and take him in then. It could be that the chip just needs to be repositioned off the shoulder where the skin may be tight and rubbing the chip.

I believe they put microchips in with a needle....so they are VERY small. You might want to check for ticks...they can be Very small on the
outside of his skin (size of a pinhead) and would bother him alot.

If you are feeling uneasy...I recommend you just call your microchip company and ask them any questions.

Microchips are the size of a grain of rice, and I have never heard of any shifting and bothering the pet so much he is scratching the area. You should be able to take your pet in to any Vet without an appointment to have the chip scanned to see if it is still readable.
