    Hip Dysplasia

I heard of this condition a while ago. Just wondering if you guys have any experience about this condition.

    Let's discuss this here.

Buddy had hip dsyplasia, when I first got him. We would go for long walks and he would just give out and lay down. The vet suggested that I swim him to build the muscles surrounding the hip, and continue walking him.

This has been my only experience with it.

My last Lab suffered from Hip Dysplasia, for the last 3 years of her life. We first noticed that something was wrong when she lost interest in going for walks. We figured just getting older, etc. but then we started to notice other things like slowing down to a walk instead of running at the sound of her dish filling with food. After a trip to the vet, we came back not knowing what to think. But with a regular douse of medication from the vet every meal time she perked up, and seemed to move mych better. We were able to controal it for a few years with her medication, and if she had a bad day we gave her a (Buffern) as well as her regular medication. After she was diagionsed with Hip Dysplasia, she still had 3 good years before she started to really decline in health. The 4th year was hard on her and i both, but i won't get into that. This usually is a more common problem with larger, and older dogs. If they suffer from it, medication and weight controal can make their quality of life better for a few years.
