How much is too much and how little is too little

Can I have some advice please my two pups ( 6 and 4 months old) have recently started a raw diet but I want to take bones out of the equation as I have just had a bad experience with my 4 month old and a Turkey Back . This experience has really really shocked me but I don't want to stop the raw feeding just the bones . I will be providing Calcium and a selection of meats and fish. I cannot work out how much food they should be eating all the info I read seems to contradict each other and I am so confused. Please can you give me some straight forward,non-complicated advice. One pup weighs 20kg and one weighs 16kg they eat morning and evening and have a snack of egg ,cottage cheese and natural yogurt at lunch time. Thanks

    Hello Carolian,

I think you can still feed your dog raw but remove the bones in the equation just make sure
that your dog gets the equivalent nutrients etc that he gets from the bones.

Hi Jude thanks for getting back to me . Do you advise 3% of adult body weight per day???. They will have one meaty bone a week but it won't be a daily meal .

Hi I have been breedging dogs since 1963 including Wire Fox ,Silky Terriers and originally Airedales (both show and hunting size 6 to 100 lbs) and Dalmatians
I would recommend that you do not feed raw if you are just learning about it. Your puppies are at an age thru age 1yr where is is very important that they have
maximum nutrition to grow properly. A person who knows how to feed the diet knows what to look for in each individual puppy or dog . I would either feed a good commercial diet (Eukanuba, Purina, Science Diet ) or have your Veterinarian set up guidlines of what to feed and how much and suppliments needed .

I agree with Lee in as much as you should be consulting your vet as to how much you should be feeding. However, I believe Raw is the best way to go no matter how old the pup or dog is. If you are going to feed them bones, at least for now make it beef, venison no chicken turkey or any other fowl type of bone, as they splinter and cause problems within their little intestines and stomach.

Since you are interested in feeding raw, you also need to feed them supplements. Some people give their pups 1 vitamin per day [yep, a good multi vitamin] However, for you, I would suggest to consult your Vet regarding what to feed and the supplements. If you can get the supplements natural and NOT pharmaceutical would be the best way to go.
