Hi! This is Laurie Anne 7. I have 2 Shih Tzu dogs, who are brothers, age 5 1/2 yrs. Bandit and Rascal. Bandit seems to have a problem with his protein level .. i.e. if he gets too much protein in his diet, it seems to trigger seizures. The first time he started having them, I took him to the vet who did a blood test, and it showed an elevated protein level. He suggested I should cut back on his protein level and feed him more "filler-based" food such as rice, vegetables, and the like. Since I've been doing this, he's stopped having seizures and his blood level has gone back down to normal.

I am having a tough time finding any dog food brands that don't contain high levels of protein. I would like to know how to find out if there are vegetarian dog foods for dogs with protein problems such as this, and if so, which ones they are. Are there many brands out there to choose from? Do I need to go to a special place to find them, or are they available in most stores?

It really doesn't matter whether it is dry or wet, as I can manage the level or protein to add to it once I know the base of the food is mostly carbohydrates, fiber, minerals, vitamins, and moisture.

Does anyone have any information in this regard? Thanks in advance.
