A Little Something About The Boxer

    The Boxer

    DESCRIPTION

The Boxer is a medium sized, short haired dog with a smooth coat. They're well-conditioned, very athletic and powerful breed of dogs.

They have a very strong jaws and a powerful bite which makes them ideal guard dogs.

Boxers can span over 22 – 25 inches and can weigh about 60 – 70 pounds.

    TEMPERAMENT

Although this breed may look tough and strong they're actually very affectionate, loyal and would love the company of their master or their family.

They're very intelligent and are always eager to learn which makes them ideal for dog obedience competitions.

This breed is also great with children but can't be trusted with other small pets or farm birds.

    HEALTH AND LONGEVITY

This breed can be prone to heart problems, skin and other allergies, hip dysplasia, epilepsy and deafness.

They can live for about 11 – 14 years.

    CARE REQUIRED

This breed is easy to groom not only because of their smooth and short coat but also because they tend to groom themselves (like cats).

Athletic and full of energy, Boxers will need to given daily long brisk walks or jogs. They will also like to play especially fetch.

    SUITABILITY

Boxers can do well in an apartment setting provided that they're given enough exercise. But it's suggested to have an average sized yard where this breed can play in. They're fairly active indoors but are temperature sensitive.

This breed can be great with families of all shapes and sizes but shouldn't be trusted with other small non-canine pets and farm birds.

Boxer are definitely temperature sensitive. For anyone looking for a boxer or thinking of getting one, please be aware that boxers cannot be left outside in extreme hot and cold temps. They are indoor dogs but love to play and be outside as much as possible-as long as you are with them, or they are in a fenced in yard. Boxers are very affectionate and loyal; they always want to be around their owners and do not like being alone for long periods of time. If they are not worked out at least once a day (I recommend twice), they will find objects to destroy in the house per lack of boredom. With proper attention, exercise, training and affection; boxers are the best family dog ever!
