You may also want to try the following..... especially if your dog is "food motivated".....
Make having "4 (paws) on the floor" more enticing by throwing a treat on the floor, and saying "OFF". Be sure to say it only once.
Also, you should be doing the training yourself, not your 6-year old, UNTIL your dog understands the Off command each and every time you say it.

Dogs Jumpimg on Strangers
My trainer suggested that when a dog jumps have that person simply keep walking right into the dog. This is better than putting a knee up because it shows the dog that you are the alpha. This has worked great with my two miniature poodles that get very excited when people come over for a visit. The only downside is that you have to get buy-in from others. Soon your dog will realize that he/she is not to jump on anyone.
