hello guys here are some more tips that can help you with dog barking.

    How To Stop Dog Barking!

One of the biggest dog training pet peeves with dog owners is dog barking. It can be annoying and it can even result in owners getting a fine if other people complain about it.

There are many reasons why dogs bark but that doesn’t mean you have to decide to just live with it. You do have to realize that your dog's barking is the form of verbal communication that they use.

Therefore you have to expect that it will take place from time to time. In many instances ,dog barking is the result of them communicating with each other.

It could be to attract a mate or to let other dogs in the area know that they have already claimed the territory in that area.

I taught Buddy he had an inside voice. He used his inside voice [quieter bark] to alert me that someone is at the door, or if I was in the car when a stranger was approaching for some reason.

He was to use his outside voice when there were real threats which life did not present any for us.

When Buddy would bark loud, I would put my finger up to my mouth and say shhhh when he quieted down I said good boy use your inside voice. Eventually all he used was a quieter bark only to alert me. This way I'm not taking his job away from him I'm just teaching him there is another way to do the same job and not be annoying.

If someone else would come to the door, he would come and find me with a puzzled look on his face for me to come with him. so I had to go see who was at the door too.

Patience and diligence will work for any dog to learn what pleases you.

I really like the way that you taught Buddy to have two voices. I am still working on Bear. I think I will give your method a try. I want him to bark loud if there is someone around the house that should not be there. Since my husband works out of town I like when Bear barks to let me know that someone is coming to the door. However, I would like him to know when to use an "inside voice" and when he can bark using his outside bark. I look forward to teaching him this and letting you know how it is going. Thanks again.

A great majority of the time...if you just ignore the barking ...the dog will quit on his/her own, as they are not recieving any attention from you. By all means though...check out what it is that they are barking at...but do it indiscreetly.

The finger to your mouth to signify "SHHH, SHHH!" is great....but if you continually talk to your dog using too many words as well as using a different tone or pitch in your voice....they will just think you are joining in.

I tried this method with the command Quiet on my 9mth yorkie, she is so intelligent she started barking and kept running back for more treats now I just give her a cuddle tell her she is good, currently working on the method of tying her up at the place of barking for brief period, this is if she does not stop when told, Its good to know I am not alone with this problem.
