Behavour problems

I have several things I would like advice ,or suggestions about.
Lady is a 14 month old Cavalier King Charles. She has had 2 seasons and is generally house trained and is very clean and well behaved on the whole..
I think it was just after her 2nd season ,that She started peeing on her bedding. She scratches at her bedding and ruffles it up and sometimes pees on it.
The thing is it is not just her own bedding that she does it on , I think you would call it marking ,she has been doing it on the throws I have on the settees. as well as on her own blanket and her bed.
I tell her off for doing it, but she knows she has done wrong before I say a word ,she goes to her cage as soon as she sees me tidying the bedding or throws, before I even see where she has peed.
I will add here she has never been told to go to her cage ever ,it is something she has decided to do, yet she is also comforted in the cage if we go shopping.
The second thing I wanted to mention ,which could be related to the above .
Lady has always liked her toys , she doesn’t chew them or rip them to pieces. She loves them and basically cuddles up to them. This is not a substitute for the real thing. She has more than enough of the real loves ,cuddles and attention.
What she has been doing is picking out certain soft toys ,taking them to her bed ,licking them to death and then tucking then under her chin or by laying on them. This doesn’t really worry me .I just wondered if it can be related to the above problem..
There are a few other s things but I think that this is enough for now. I just wondered if anyone can tell me why she is doing this. ???
many thanks Jan

A dog that is not spayed or neutered will mark it's territory. What she does to the stuffed toy she will do with her pups.. She is trying to be a mother to them.

Thankyou Sara, we did think that was what she was doing with her toys and have also said she would make a lovely mother ,IF we dicide to let her have a litter.
We are more than well aware of all the things involved when doing this, and have given it a lot of thought and time to research it.
Is there any way we can stop her from peeing wherever and whenever the fancy takes her ?
and How long should she be told she is a BAD Girl? relating to the above..

Her behavior is normal behavior for a female dog coming into heat, during heat and in her case having a false pregnancy. It will start about 4 weeks prior to going into heat , through out the heat (21 days ) and unless she has a false pregnancy it will usually stop about a week after going out of heat. To punish her for normal sexual behavior , would be like punishing your daughter for PMS The urination is to attract males and they do need to urinate more often when in heat The toys are her "puppies" she needs to cuddle and take care of because in her mind she is pregnant and did go into labor. Just because she appears very maternal dose not mean she will be a good mom Some will be so protective of the puppies that they do them harm. Those having false pregnancies are more likely to have breast tumors latter in life

I agree with Lee, that we don't punish her for her behaviour. Get her spayed or let her mate, will take care of the problem.

Many Thanks for the replies.
This is what we thought it was and have made up our minds to let Lady have one litter of puppies.
Obviously we can't mate her until she comes into seasonn again. So watch this space............
I have had a good read up as to what is involved and am prepared for what it will be like .{I think} LOL
It will be my first time as a Mummy to doggy babies.
We are now looking out for a Dog to mate her with.
Thanks again for your replys.

As a breeder get many people wnting to breed their dogs. My stud fee is $1500 and quite often I sell the puppies for my clients I also give them the real deal on breeding dogs, so they alot of food for thought. The prices and regulations are for breeding a dog in Los Angeles California. I don't know what the rules are in England. I do know that your breed is one of the most overbred breed of dog in England .
COST OF BREEDING A LITTER OF PUPPIES
Necessary for the health of the mother and her litter A trip to the veterinarian for the following:
Health check., worming, and fresh shots for mom , brucellosis test....................$180.00
Stud service fee........(give or take depending on breeder ) $1000 to $1500 ...
After breeding:
Top quality food for mom .................................................$ 36.00
Whelping pen .................................................. ....$125
At birth:
Vet check and cleanout shot .................................$65.00
Tails and dew claws............................................. .. $180.00
As puppies grow:
Misc. expenses (trash bags, extra heat, papers, paper towels heating pads)..........$130.00
Vet visit 6 weeks for 1st shots and worming (distemper measles and parvo ) .................................................. ...............$250.00
Vet visit 8 weeks for 2nd shots and worming (DHPP) .................................................. ...............$250.00
Vet visit 10 weeks for 3rd shots (Parvo) .................................................. .....................................$175.00
Vet visit 12 weeks for 4th shot (DHPP)..............$250.00
Advertising for min 4 weeks (1 week per pup )...$356.00
Puppy food .................................................. ..................$ 61.00
Exercise Pen............................................... ....................$ 90.00
Toys.............................................. ...................................$ 32.00
Breeders license and unaltered fee...LA City ........$200.00
(LA County $280 )
Litter registration...................................... .............$ 33.00 AKC $20 UKC
Micro chip required with breeders license 320.00
Cost for 4 (Wire or Silky Terrier ) pups without problems......$4187 to 3687 (1046.75 to 921.76 each pup)
The above price is the cost to a pet breeder. Who has no experience in breeding dogs and must depend on professional help. They are breeding their dog, reputably and responsibly. A experience breeder will cut the cost by about 25%. The Veterinarian prices are average but can be higher or lower depending on the area you live in or Veterinarian. These are California prices . There is no expense for your time , a rider on your homes owners policy to cover a one time business activity , any emergency or genetic screening This also reflects the 1st litter additional litters will not need a new whelping box and exercise pen . This also represents top quality breeders with great concern for their puppies breeding legally ethically and morally.
HIDDEN COSTS, PROBLEMS AND SLOW TO SELL:
You have to be present when your female is in labor and you are out one or two days worth of wages. Include your lost wages in the price of your puppies.
If you are going to sell your puppies check with your homeowners insurance to see if you are covered if a person is injured or heaven forbid bitten while looking at you puppies, Most homeowners will not pay the claim as you are conducting a commercial activity. Add fee for additional commercial insurance to the puppy's selling price.
Your puppies don't sell in four ads. You must continue advertising at $84 per week (cheap ads do not work just eat up valuable selling time) Puppies are going to need additional shots at about $50 each per set.
What if they don't ever sell. You must license the puppies at 4 months. If you have more than three dogs you are in violation of most city dog limit laws. Are you now going to turn them into the pound, give them away , put them to sleep , or keep them and hope you have understanding neighbors when you have extra dogs.
MEDICAL PROBLEMS
C-Section........................................... ...... $600 - $3000
Mastitis eclampsia pymetria................ $150 - $500
Supplement for puppies if mother dies or cannot nurse..............$5.00per day and up
All pups get Parvo............................................. ...................................$1200 up per puppy
Oh one more expense often overlooked the IRS WILL WANT PART OF YOUR SELLING PRICE.
What it all boils down to, do not breed unless you are totally committed to the care and well being of your dog and her puppies. You should have at least $4000 in you bank account and should have a backup plan if the puppies do not sell, which if you have a good size litter or professional competition the odds are that they won't all sell.
If you are breeding to show your children the miracle of life they will probably see death also. Many pups are born stillborn, some are deformed, and most litters will have at least one fading puppy. The mother may also die.
If you are breeding to get a companion for your dog. I am sure she would much rather have you just buy one for her. Once she is bred she will have a 40% chance of breast cancer before she is 10 yrs of age. She is also at risk for pymetria, and uterine and cervical cancer
If you are breeding to get your money back from the purchase of your dog I would suggest that you take the $4000 and go to Vegas and play the slot machines. Your odds are probably just as good and you would have much more fun. .

You have most definetly given me a lot of food for thought and information Lee for which I thank you.
As I said before we have given this some thought.
In fact we gave it a lot of thought for our previous dogs and decided Not to breed them.
Basically have been our babies. But after we had them spayed .
One had several phantom pregnancies after this and was very motheing to her toys.
We always said she would have made a wonderful mum and felt we had deprived her of this opportunity.
This is why ,because of Lady's behaviour we are thinking along the same line of reasoning.
She had her 2nd season end of December ? Beginning of January.
Her behaviour has been the same for protecting and loving her toys since she was a puppy.
SHe does also share her toys with her sister when she come to visit.
She is also very well behaved when other dogs visit with no sign of being vicious to dogs or children.
I am a pensioner and Lady is my companion and baby . SO I wont lose wages we are also aware of the costs involved.
Lady is spoiled but also disciplined as well. I don't let her take me for a fool and she knows that I am the Alpha here.
Very grateful to your replies.
It is great being able to come here and find all the information under one roof...Thanks again. Regards Jan

If you are looking for a stud make sure that he has been heath checked for problems in your breed Britian has a huge population of Cavis A film was made a few years ago about purebred dog problems featuring the Cavi You want to make sure both your dog and the stud are free from these problems . You shold have the screening on your female done prior to finding a male You should also have a certified pedigree and registration certificate to show the stud owner. In the US we also require a brucellosis test done prior to breeding This is a link the video I mentioned “Pedigree Dogs Exposed” gets first U.S. airing | ohmidog!
It was aired by the BBC and as a result changed how the Kennel Club and Crufts do business
