DESCRIPTION

A merry little hound who's tail never stops! Superb sense of smell which not only makes them good hunters but also much sort after as sniffer dogs for the military, customs and even the fire brigade when arson is suspected.

Natural entertainers very happy little dogs exceptionally clean, and easily trained but can be stuborn as a mule, also unfortunately, prone to selective hearing especially if on a scent trail!

They are generally between 13 and 16 inches high at the withers and can weigh between 18 and 35 lb.

TEMPRAMENT

Very biddable, loves everyone and everything...great with children and other dogs...will live happily alongside the family cat, but may well chase others and other small animals.
Boundles energy for life in general.

HEALTH AND LONGEVITY

In the UK there are not many health problems with beagles and no health tests are neccessary, however there is a condition known as stiff beagle syndrome that occasionally crops up but there is no proof as yet that it is hereditary. In the US however they can have congenital heart problems, elbow, and hip displasia and patella luxation.

They can live from 12 to 15 yrs.

CARE REQUIRED

Very little grooming care a quick massage with a rubber grooming glove keeps the skin and hair healthy and shining, Very easy to keep clean even after a muddy walk, a quick rub with a dry towel and bingo! one clean beagle!

Care should be taken however with feeding, Beagles will eat anything!...an adult beagle should only have one meal a day, with maybe one biscuit at bed time, they are very prone to quickly put on weight.

SUITABILITY

Buy only from a respected breeder, if you want a pet/showdog, dont buy from hunting kennels, the in built hunting instinct is far too strong for a house dog.

Although small they are a power house of energy, the need plenty of excersise both on and off the lead, a firmly enclosed Garden is a must for safe off lead excesise, being intrinsically pack animals they hate to be left alone, and can become destructive if left to their own devices for long.
