New Basset Hound puppy
Hello! I am getting a Basset Hound puppy in about a month. She will be 8 weeks old. This will be my husband and I's first puppy and my first dog. We currently live with my husbands parents, who have a 5 year old female Whippet. The Whippet is not very socialized or trained and is a bit spoiled. I worry about how the Whippet is going to react to having another dog in the house. Also though I plan on spending a lot of time training my puppy and socializing her, I worry that the Whippet's lack of training and discipline will hinder my training.
Does anyone have any suggestions on easing the transition of a new puppy into the house? Also any training suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I am a student, so I will have the entire summer all day every day to spend training and loving the puppy. Don't worry I won't stop once class starts!

When you bring a new puppy in the house where there is another animal already there, introduce the puppy to the older dog by letting the older dog smell the puppys rear. This will make the puppy submissive to the older dog. don't worry about the other dog when you are training yours, just stay on top of things and everything should go great for you, your new puppy and you never know the older dog may want to join in.
