DESCRIPTION

The American Water Spaniel is truly a magnificent breed. They were bred for both companionship and for retrieving.

This breed is known for their excellent retrieving capabilities. They're medium in size, muscular, hardy and quite an active dog.

They're also known for their tightly curled, crisped texture and wavy out coat.

They can span over 15 – 18 inches and can weigh 24 – 25 pounds.

TEMPERAMENT

This breed is friendly, energetic, confident, persistent and obedient. They are very intelligent and are eager to please.

They're a very loving breed and are good with children.

Training this breed should be in a calm, firm and quiet manner as it's quite sensitive to harsh treatment.

HEALTH AND LONGEVITY

This breed is fairly healthy but is prone to skin problems.

They can live for about 12 – 15 years.

CARE REQUIRED

They're light shedders but will need a thorough brushing at least twice a week. This breed should be bathed only when necessary.

Lots of physical exercise is a must for this breed as well as long daily walks.

SUITABILITY

This breed can do ok in an apartment given that they're provided with enough exercise. They're quite active indoors and will do best with a medium sized yard.

They're eager to please and are good with children. Very trainable provided that the training method is calm, quiet and consistent.
