DESCRIPTION
The American Staffordshire Terrier or commonly known as "Am staff", is a medium sized dog.
They're muscular looking, strong and they possess a powerful head but are agile and graceful at the same time.
They can span over 17 – 19 inches and can weigh about 57 – 67 pounds.
TEMPERAMENT
Don't get fooled by this breed's strong and intimidating looks, they're very affectionate, loving, happy, gentle and intelligent dogs.
They're also good natured and are good with both children and adults. This breed wants nothing than to please their master.
They're good guard dogs because of their brave and overprotective nature.
HEALTH AND LONGEVITY
The Am staff is prone to skin allergies, heart murmurs, thyroid problems, hip dysplasia, congenital hear diseases and cataracts.
They can live for about 9 – 15 years.
CARE REQUIRED
They're average shedders but their smooth and short coat is easy to groom. Brushing their coat on a regular basis and bathing them when necessary will do.
It's important to give this breed enough exercise. They can become a handful without enough exercise. Long daily walks or jogs is suggested to keep this breed calm and healthy.
SUITABILITY
Am staffs will do well with apartment life provided that they're given enough exercise and long walks. They're quite active indoors and can do well without a yard.
They're very affectionate, overprotective of their masters and are good with both children and adults.
This breed is good for families provided that they have the time and energy to provide this breed with the exercise that this breed will require.
