DESCRIPTION
Although quite similar to the English Foxhound, American Foxhounds were bred to be taller, lighter, to be faster and to have a better sense of smell.
This breed is large dog with a domed skull and a long muzzle.
They can span over 21 – 15 inches and can weigh about 65 – 75 pounds.
TEMPERAMENT
This breed is affectionate, loving and can be good with both children and other dogs. But because of their hunting background they're not to be trusted with non-canine pets.
They're very loyal, brave and very intelligent.
HEALTH AND LONGEVITY
Although the American Foxhound is quite a healthy breed, they gain weight easily.
They can live for about 10 - 12 years.
CARE REQUIRED
Their smooth short coat isn't hard to groom and they're average shedders.
This breed is quite energetic which will require daily rigorous exercise to help keep them calm. Daily long walks will also be required to keep this breed healthy.
SUITABILITY
This breed is not recommended for apartment life and shouldn't be left alone without something to keep them busy. They can be restless without proper exercise.
So, this breed isn't recommended for those who don't have the time and capability to give this breed the exercise that they require.
They're good with children and they love being with the family.
