DESCRIPTION
The American Eskimo Dog or commonly known as "Eskies" are Nordic type dogs that somewhat looks like a miniature Samoyed.
This breed is well built and is balanced. They have a wedge-shaped head with muzzle and skull about the same length, a pointed triangular-shaped ears, and a heavily plumed tail curled over the back.
The Eskies comes with 3 varieties namely; the toy, miniature, and standard.
A standard Eskie can span about 15 -19 inches and can weigh from 18 - 35 pounds; a miniature Eskie can span over 12 - 15 inches and can weigh from 10 - 20 pounds and a toy Eskie can span over 9 - 12 inches from 6 - 10 pounds.
TEMPERAMENT
Eskies are very intelligent dogs, they're easy to train. As a matter of fact American Eskimos rank high in th field of dog obedience trials. They're also very affectionate and loving.
They were breed to be house and companion dogs which is why they love being with the family.
They're also very playful and are good with the children. This breed can be wary of strangers but can become friendly with them if properly introduced.
HEALTH AND LONGEVITY
This breed is prone to hi dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy and allergic reactions caused by flea bites.
They can live for 15 years or more.
CARE REQUIRED
The Eskie's fur is easy to groom. You can brush the fur at least twice a week with a firm bristle brush.
This breed is an average shedder.
They easily gain weight so exercise and frequent long walks is required to keep this breed fit.
SUITABILITY
Although a Eskie can do well without a yard, it's still recommended to have at least a small yard for the Eskie.
They're fairly active indoors and will do well in an apartment provided that they get a lot of exercise and frequently taken out for walks.
This breed will really be good for families of all shapes and sizes. They're good with children and would like to be surrounded but their family.
