DESCRIPTION
Always confused as Siberian Huskies, the Alaskan Malamute is considered as the oldest and largest of the arctic sled dogs.
They're used to carry heavy loads because of the strength and endurance that they posses.
They're known because of their build, their proud stance and their plumed tail.
They can span over 24 - 26 inches and can weigh 80 -95 pounds.
TEMPERAMENT
This breed is very intelligent and loyal. They're also affectionate and are good with children that are big enough to play with them.
They're friendly nature makes them a poor guard dog.
Although this breed can be good in dealing with the cold temperature because of their thick coats, they're quite sensitive in dealing with the warm weather.
HEALTH AND LONGEVITY
Alaskan Malamute is prone to hip dysplasia, bloat and dwarfism.
They can live for about 12 - 15 years.
CARE REQUIRED
This breed sheds heavily and should brushed properly at least twice a week. Bathing is a bit unnecessary for this breed because of its fur's ability to shed dirt.
They should be given a lot of exercise as well as long daily walks to keep them calm and healthy.
SUITABILITY
This breed is not recommended for apartment life. They're active indoors and likes to be with their master or family but would prefer to be indoors.
Alaskan Malamutes will require a big yard with a huge fence along with a shade to keep them out of the heat.
They're very friendly, very affectionate to their family and are good with children.
