She should be on anti seizure medication at all times. If she is not having seizures all the much it doesn't make a difference. The medication will adjust her neurological disorder, and calm her down.. With respects to a no kill shelter, I don't know where you live, perhaps your Vet might know..

    Dear Sarah,
I appreciate your incite about my dog being on meds but this is not about one size fits all situation.I have dealt over five years with her aggressive behavioral problems so not to ever feel like I have not given it my best shot and every day that goes by means she's still with us. I'm not a quitter and after discussing her medical issue with a homeopathic vet-well renown in this field. She suggested that because of the toxic nature that phenobarbital and the other seizure meds could be worse for Rory.I changed her diet to high protein/ no GRAINs/homeopathic supplements for seizures/daily vitamins/apple cider vinegar to cleanse her digestive system and liver of toxins and honey to keep her blood sugar level high.As you can see I am devoted to her well- being. I also feel all too often Vets/Drs give meds even though they don't know for sure the cause of an illness and put a bandaid in the form of drugs. Pheno is very strong and does not eradicate the seizures but so they don't come as strong which Rory's are petit- mal at best. Problem is that this drug is given every 12 hrs and you can not miss or seizures can be more intense and also intensify aggression,so I could in fact be make things worse. She does not allow me near her when she's seizing so if she's medicated until it's tweeked she will surely not let me take her out since I live on a two floor home and stairs are an issue. My husband and I are the only care givers as no one can take care of her even if I chose to go away so I don'! Don't socialize either to protect her from the anxiety of guests and the people from her possibly bitting them. Its her biting that gives me pause and even if we got to the root of her medical issue I still have to live with a dog that bites and I have Lupus and should not be bitten at all.So though many on this forum give me well meaning advice I need to not put her down as many have suggested ( not the Forum) including the Vet and her breeder. I want someone who deals with these dog issues to help me by taking her from us so that she can live in an environment that can address these issues daily.I am not a behaviorist or a trainer so I can not put myself in arms way of aggression. I live in New York and maybe someone knows somewhere I can take her???

Arim56, in no way did I allude that you were not taking care of your dog. I know all about seizures, as I have had them all my life. I have taken medication, for them as well, but now have switched to Herbal, when I am in need. Ask your vet about giving your dog 5-HTTP which is like prozac without the side affects. 5-HTTP is also an anti seizure medication, anti depressant etc. However, as you well may know, taking "natural medicine" takes time to build up in your system.. You may also want to try accupuncture, as well. The medical issue is the "priority" right now in your dog, the biting can be fixed, that's secondary. A lot of the aggression is due to the medical issues. In the medical arena there are alot of Docs who use anti seizure medication for depression and vice versa...

You can purchase 5-HTTP at a health food store.

With respects to a non kill, contact a poodle rescue and perhaps they will take your dog. Perhaps the AKC could help you
find someone who would be willing to take the dog and care for it.

    Sarah,
Thanks! I will look into the supplement you mentioned. Poodle rescue will not take her-I tried !-In your opinion you think that her aggression from puppy-hood is directly correlated to her neurological disorder? She didn't have seizures till last year after applying a new topical flea med called Advantage- FDA claims that poodles are adversely affected but I didn't know that at the time.In retrospect she has had tummy issues -bile vomiting that could of been mini-undetected seizures- Homeopathic vet thinks liver toxicity so I'm trying to cleanse her system.I'm willing to try anything at this point to keep her and making her well.I'll look into this supplement. Thanks again- I'll keep you posted

You have to understand that sometimes an underlying disease can be with us all of our life, and then for some reason be triggered. In your dogs case it could have been the advantage, but we don't know that for fact.

I would clean the whole system Arim, organs, blood, You could buy some Dandelion Tea either in bulk or in bags, and make up some tea "no sweetener" and add a couple of tablespoons to her food... You may have to buy some wet food for her... I'm not sure what your feeding her. You may also want to add some "nutritional yeast" as a supplement which is full of your B vitamins which helps the neurons, muscles etc within our system. The dog will love it, as my cat loves it. Just sprinkle some on her food. Once again it would have to be "wet food" Humans can also take this as a supplement. I sprinkle it on mostly popcorn as a seasoning.

Thank you for keeping us posted...
